Street Fighter IV to kolejna odsłona tworzonej przez Capcom serii, która zdefiniowała gatunek dwuwymiarowych bijatyk. Pierwsza jej odsłona ukazała się przeszło dwadzieścia lat temu - w 1987 roku, i zyskała sporą popularność. Jednak największy sukces odniosła wydana cztery lata później druga część będąca w tamtych czasach grą bardzo innowacyjną. To właśnie w Street Fighter II po raz pierwszy mieliśmy możliwość stoczenia pojedynku multiplayer - jeden na jednego. O ogromnej popularności SFII najlepiej może świadczyć fakt, iż sprzedał się w ponad 6,3 milionach egzemplarzy, nic więc dziwnego, że firma Capcom potraktowała go jako bazę do opisywanego Street Fighter IV.
